The ultimate awards guide
The Negotiator Awards 2011 have launched with a bang, boasting another esteemed judging panel and a wide range of categories to ensure we recognise agency excellence at every level. Here, we outline the benefits of being involved. It's easy for the general to public to think of estate agents as rogues, or in the fine words of Glastonbury agent, Jules, sh*t. The property ombudsman's annual report for 2010 revealed an unexpectedly high level of sales complaints, which he was at a loss to explain. And as we report in this issue, the report follows the expulsion of two lettings firms, which is, of course, the type of story that tends to hit the national media headlines. Then there are the industry efforts to drive up agency standards to consider, from the National Federation of Property Professionals licensing schemes to the kitemark scheme being pitched by the National Approved Lettings Scheme.
But as always, there's a distinct lack of joined up thinking, leaving conspiracy theorists to assume that, once again these initiatives are little more than strategies with which the creators can boost their bottom line. This is why The Negotiator Awards, which aim to identify, reward and celebrate industry excellence and promote best practice, are this year more important than ever. There are many examples of industry excellence within agency across the country, and we're here to shout about them. Last years champions, including Romans, Countrywide Financial Services, Debbie Fortune, The Ringley Group, Lucy Morton and Accent Property Management, all continue to reap the benefits of their accolades in their marketing material, with Romans having even invested a trophy for each of its offices to remind clients of its excellence in winning the Supreme Negotiator Award.
Judges This years independent judges, who kindly give up their time for free, include none other than national broadcaster and chartered surveyor, James Max. He is joined by a range of industry experts, including Vincent Cole, director at Romans, Peter Rollings of London-based Marsh & Parsons and Debbie Fortune, director Somerset-based Debbie Fortune Estate Agents, winner of last years Newcomer of the Year award.
