Block Management Overview

Management is about the minutia done well. It takes a team across a range of disciplines to deal with the multiple facets of block and estate management: politics, building pathology, finance, legal knowhow and of course customer service too.

At Ringley we believe in joined up thinking and commit to signpost Clients on all things property - even if outside our day-to-day management remit

Our true business is building relationships with our people. Our people really know that they can make a difference to our residents. We match our people to what each site needs to be achieved, with you in mind. We lead the market in transparency and focusing on risk, cash, repairs and place making, usually in that order.

We are not shy of hard work and believe our ability to get stuck in and find solutions that sets us apart. We are innovative to the core and committed to implementing good ideas in pursuit of 5* service.

Being who we are would be impossible without our passionately committed people, whose qualifications we sponsor and who we support professionally to be the best they can be, as achieving a national training award and our Silver IIP status confirms.

History of Stockwell

The name Stokewell (first recorded in 1197) means a well with a log or tree and is derived from Old English Stoke + wella. Stockwell Wood existed until the 17th century. The Stockwell manor was created in the late 13th century when King Edward I seized the manor of South Lambeth and divided it into the manors of Vauxhall and Stockwell. The oldest surviving buildings are St Andrew's Church, Stockwell Green, circa 1767, and Stockwell Congregational Church, circa 1798. The new Royal Head on Stockwell Road retains its original late 18th-century building.

In September 1825 Cockney described how he had breakfast at the Swan on the Green and walked from Brixton to Blackheath, "encountering nothing but yellow hammers and sparrows". Town merchants built houses on Clapham Road and Stockwell Road from the 1800s. Residential streets began to be laid out in the 1830s and most of the Stockwell Park area was built in the 1840s. So all that remains of South Lambeth Common is a small triangle surmounted by a memory clock tower.

The construction of the London Chatham and Dover Railway in 1862-63 triggered the need for dense development around what is now Landor Road. Commercial development concentrated on Clapham and Brixton Roads, making Stockwell Green a plague.

The City and South London Railway opened Stockwell station in 1890.

What our CEO, Mary Anne Bowring, likes about Stockwell

Stockwell is easily recognizable among bustling areas such as Brixton, Clapham and Vauxhall. The fact that the largest architectural landmark is the Grade II listed bus garage does not help his cause. But there are many good pubs that are worth a stop, and the area is home to the largest Portuguese community outside the Iberian Peninsula, making it the best place in the UK to try nata cake (Portuguese delicacy, custard).
