"We have had a problem with noise from the flat above us in Lady Isle House Ferry Court Cardiff. We contacted a Mr Paul Staniforth who immediately became involved and addressed the situation. We really do appreciate what he has done for us and cannot thank him enough. Once again a big thank you to Mr Staniforth. The noise above was intolerable."

History of New Malden

New Malden's transformation from a rural settlement to a vibrant suburban town is closely tied to the arrival of the railway in the mid-19th century. The opening of New Malden railway station in 1846 marked the beginning of its development, with the construction of terraced houses to the north of the station. This growth continued into the 20th century, with larger detached and semi-detached houses built in the 1930s. The town's development was further accelerated by the establishment of the Maldens & Coombe Urban District Council in 1895, granting the area greater local governance. In 1936, New Malden achieved borough status, complete with its own mayor and a civic mace bearing the royal insignia of King Edward VIII. The town also endured significant hardship during World War II, suffering extensive damage from German bombing raids, particularly the first attack on 16 August 1940, which resulted in approximately 50 fatalities and the destruction of around 1,300 homes. Despite these challenges, New Malden continued to grow and evolve, eventually merging with Surbiton in 1965 to form the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames.en.wikipedia.org+3en.wikipedia.org+3acearchive.org+3

In the latter half of the 20th century, New Malden became home to a significant Korean community, earning it the nickname "Little Korea." This influx began in the 1950s when a South Korean conglomerate partnered with a British electronics firm, Decca Radar, based in the town. Around the same time, the South Korean embassy established its first UK residence in nearby Coombe Lane West, and Samsung Electronics opened its first European headquarters in the area. These developments attracted South Korean expatriates to New Malden, and over time, the community grew, with an estimated 10,000 ethnic Koreans residing in the area by 2014. The presence of Korean businesses, cultural institutions, and religious organizations has made New Malden a focal point for Korean culture in Europe. Additionally, the town has become home to a notable North Korean refugee community, drawn by the area's established Korean infrastructure and the UK's more welcoming stance toward refugees. However, recent changes in immigration policies and stricter border controls in North Korea have led to a decline in the number of new arrivals, and many North Koreans have begun returning to South Korea, leading to a gradual reduction in the community's size.
