History of North Harrow

North Harrow, which is located in the London Borough of Harrow, has a rich history that stretches back to medieval times. "Harrow" is believed to have been derived from the Old English word "hearg," meaning "temple" or "sacred place," an indication of the significance of the place in the past. The locality was largely rural and farming in character for most of its early history, and the village of Harrow, together with North Harrow, were chiefly known for their farming communities. The construction of the Metropolitan Railway in 1885 in the 19th century helped provide a boost to the area's development, adding much-needed transport links to central London. This accessibility made North Harrow an attractive location for housing development, especially as London expanded outwards during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods.
