Part of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, the history and culture of Dagenham were carved out of its development from a country village to an industrial community before turning into a residential suburb. The story, briefly, is something like this:

History: 1. Early Settlement: The history of Dagenham goes back to prehistoric times; archaeologists found remains of early human settlements and Roman occupation there.

2. Agricultural Roots: Most of Dagenham's past was rural, farming, fishing, and agriculture. The fertile lands on the River Thames supported farmland communities,

3. Industrial Revolution : The Industrial Revolution changed it all for Dagenham in the 19th century. With the railways opening and the building of the Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding Company opened this place for industries to grow here.

4. Ford Motor Company: Probably the most significant turn of events for Dagenham was when the Ford Motor Company decided to establish its plant here in 1931. The Ford Plant in Dagenham was well known for its auto production, especially in the model Ford Cortina.
