Block Management Roehampton

Roehampton's No 1 Managing agent

Block and Estate Management is about the minutia done well: the role of a Managing Agent is technical, administrative, practical and political. It takes joined up thinking to do what we do well as well as sufficient resource to react to whatever is necessary day-to-day.

As a Managing Agent we know our true business is building relationships with people. Our people are empowered and know that they can make a difference to how people feel about where they live. We call our 'Property Manager's 'Relationship Managers’ to embody our values which are to build relationships, add value, and to take the initiative. We lead the market in transparency and focusing on risk, cash, repairs and place making, usually in that order, and was the first Managing Agent to introduce a ' money back guarantee ’.

Being who we are would be impossible without our passionately committed people, whose qualifications we sponsor and who we support professionally to be the best they can be, as achieving a national training award and our Silver IIP status confirms.

History of Roehampton

Roehampton, located in the London Borough of Wandsworth, has a rich history that dates back to ancient times. The area was originally part of the parish of Wimbledon and is mentioned in historical records as early as the Domesday Book of 1086, where it was known as "Rohampton." The name is thought to be derived from the Old English "roeh" (a clearing in the woods) and "hamp" (a village or homestead), reflecting the rural and wooded nature of the area in earlier centuries. In the medieval period, Roehampton was primarily farmland, and it wasn't until the 16th century that it began to see the development of grand estates. One of the most significant of these was the Roehampton House, which became a prominent feature of the area. The house and its surrounding land became home to several notable figures over the centuries, including the wealthy and influential families who shaped the area’s development. By the 18th and 19th centuries, Roehampton was emerging as a desirable location for wealthy landowners and Londoners seeking a more rural retreat while still being close to the city.

The area’s rural nature began to change, with the building of more houses and roads, as well as the establishment of residential areas catering to the middle class. In the 20th century, Roehampton became more urbanised as London expanded, but it managed to retain some of its historical charm and green spaces. The area saw significant development with the construction of the University of Roehampton in the 1960s, which brought a new demographic to the area. Today, Roehampton is a vibrant residential area, blending a rich historical heritage with the demands of modern urban life. The area still boasts several historic buildings, parks, and green spaces that remind visitors of its pastoral past.

Most prestigious roads in Roehampton

Roehampton, while primarily known for its leafy suburban charm and proximity to central London, does not have many traditionally "prestigious" roads in the same sense as central London or more affluent areas like Kensington or Chelsea. However, there are a few roads and areas within Roehampton that stand out for their desirability and historic value:

  1. Roehampton Lane: A key road in the area, Roehampton Lane is home to several period properties and connects the area to Richmond Park, which makes it particularly attractive to those seeking both convenience and proximity to one of London's largest and most famous parks.

  2. The Avenue: Situated close to the University of Roehampton, The Avenue is known for its large, detached houses and tree-lined surroundings. It offers a more peaceful, residential feel with easy access to nearby parks and transport links.

  3. Downshire Hill: Located near the historic Roehampton House, Downshire Hill is a desirable road with elegant homes, offering a blend of quiet suburban life while still being close to central London. It’s particularly known for its historic architecture and greenery.

  4. Queen’s Road: Another attractive residential road, Queen’s Road features period homes and easy access to local amenities like shops and schools, making it a popular choice for families. It’s also very close to both the University of Roehampton and the lush green spaces of Putney Heath.
