History of Dagenham
Dagenham is a town in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, in the east of England. It is 10 miles (16km) east of Charing Cross and 8 miles (13km) southeast of central London. The area has been part of the London metropolis since 1965.
Dagenham has a population of around 122,300 (2011 Census), and is part of the wider East London area. The town has a long history of industry and commerce, and today is home to a number of large businesses, including Ford Motors.
Dagenham's history is also one of immigration and diversity. In the early 20th century, Irish workers came to the area to work in the docks and factories. Later, workers from other parts of the Commonwealth, such as India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, also made Dagenham their home. This rich cultural mix has helped to make Dagenham a vibrant and thriving community.
Today, Dagenham is a bustling town with a strong sense of community. It is home to a number of well-known businesses, including Ford Motors, which has had a presence in the area for over 100 years. There are also many smaller businesses, shops and restaurants, as well as schools, parks and other amenities. Dagenham is well-connected to the rest of London, and its residents enjoy a good quality of life.
New developments in Dagenham
There are a number of new developments taking place in Dagenham, which are likely to further increase property values in the area.
One of the largest developments is the regeneration of the former Dagenham Ford car plant site. This vast site is being transformed into a mixed-use development, with plans for homes, shops, restaurants, a hotel and a leisure centre.
The development is expected to create around 1,500 new jobs, and will provide a major boost to the local economy.
Another major development is the construction of a new shopping centre, called The Boulevard. This £180 million development will feature over 100 shops, restaurants and cafes, as well as a cinema and bowling alley.
The Boulevard is due to open in 2019, and is expected to attract more shoppers and businesses to Dagenham.
In addition, there are plans for a new secondary school and sixth form college on the site of the former Dagenham Library.
This will provide much-needed educational facilities for the local community, and is scheduled to open in September 2018.
The developments taking place in Dagenham are sure to have a positive impact on the town, and will make it an even more attractive place to live and work.
