History of Clapham

Intrestingly, the road in which Clapham High Street is situated on is in fact an ancient Roman Road, the road is recorded on a Roman stone now placed by the entrance of the former Clapham Library in the Old Town. According to its inscription, the stone was erected by Vitus Ticinius Ascanius, it is estimated to be from the 1st Century. It is estimated to date from the 1st century.
