Why the Workplace is a Good Place to Be

Why is it so good to work in the office?

Since Covid working from home has become increasingly prevalent. Whilst this type of working certainly has its upsides, there is something that cannot be replaced or replicated about the energy and opportunities present in a physical workspace. Here is why we feel that the workplace is still a good place to be:

1. Actually Being Able to View Projects and Achievements

One of the most fulfilling aspects of being in the workplace is the ability to see projects and achievements up close. Whether it is a new client gained, a completed management aspect or a successfully resolved customer issue, seeing the end results in person will always be incredibly motivating.

2. Gaining Inspiration from the People and the Place

Inspiration often comes from our surroundings and the people whom we interact with. The workplace provides a dynamic environment where ideas will flow freely. Colleagues' creativity, problem-solving abilities and range of perspectives can be the catalyst for new ideas and innovative solutions. The energy of the office, the collaborative spaces and even the casual conversations whilst making coffee in the morning lead to unplanned and original insights and inspirations.

3. Mentorship to Get Things Done

Working collaboratively forms the basis of professional growth. Actually being in the workplace is a fertile ground for enabling these valuable relationships. Working in the office allows for spontaneous mentoring moments, where more experienced colleagues can offer advice, guidance and support. Such interactions help to develop new skills, navigate challenges and to accelerate one’s professional development.

4. See What Good Looks Like

A benchmark of what is good can be seen by working alongside long-serving and senior colleagues. This cannot be achieved by working from home. Merely observing how others approach their work, manage their time and handle any challenges provides a clear picture of what success looks like. This in-house learning and modelling help grow personal and professional attributes.

5. A Place for Common Purpose

The workplace is a hub where people come together with a shared purpose. This sense of community and a common goal encourages a collaborative spirit. Productivity is enhanced and team bonds strengthened when working with such a collective objective. All staff members tend to be aligned and motivated towards achieving the same outcomes.

6. Appreciate Different Perspectives

Teams that offer a diverse way of thinking bring a wealth of perspectives that leads to more robust and innovative solutions. The workplace pays host as a forum for debate, discussion and consensus-building. It is a space where differing opinions are valued and where members of staff can agree or agree to disagree as they work through problems together. This process enhances the quality of decisions and also creates a culture of respect and inclusivity.

7. Solve Problems Faster Together

Collaboration is essential when it comes to problem-solving. The workplace environment is designed to facilitate this. Being able to quickly gather a team, work through solutions and to implement strategies should dramatically reduce the time that it takes to overcome challenges. The fact that it is easy to face-to-face communication, including the subtle body language not seen on video conferencing, and the synergy of working together in the same space, often leads to quicker and more effective resolutions.

8. Pitch to New Customers

The office provides an ideal setting for pitching to new customers. The professional environment, equipped with meeting rooms, presentation tools and a tangible sense of the company's culture and capabilities, makes a strong impression. It is far stronger than can be achieved online, even if you are sitting in front of rows and rows of books! Bringing potential clients into the workplace allows them to experience, first-hand, the team’s expertise, enthusiasm and the vibrant workplace culture. This is often pivotal in winning new business.

To Conclude

Whilst working from home offers flexibility, the workplace remains a vital space for professional growth, inspiration, collaboration and success. It is where projects come to life, mentorship thrives and collective goals are achieved. Embracing the benefits of the workplace is not only more fulfilling, but it also brings greater results and a sense of wellbeing. It is also a lot better for one’s mental health.

Section 21 Needs to Remain to Deal with Rogue Tenants
A recent case highlights the financial risks landlords face when tenants fail to pay rent. One landlord in Warrington, Cheshire, was left with rent arrears amounting to £29,000. Situations like this are why many in the rental sector, including PlanetRent, have been advocating for the retention of Section 21, the no-fault eviction process.

The Rental Market: The Evolution of Build to Rent (BTR)
