The Head Concierge is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day front-of-house operations, supporting and supervising the concierge team, cleaners, and handyman on site. This role requires a proactive leader who can balance customer service excellence with operational management, compliance, and health & safety requirements. While covering concierge duties as necessary, the Head Concierge will primarily work ahead of the on-site team, ensuring smooth service delivery and consistent high standards across the estate.

Head Concierge role overview - what does a Head Concierge do?

Head Concierge – Responsible for the smooth running of all front-of-house services across the estate, the Head Concierge oversees and supports the concierge team, cleaners, and handyman on site. The role combines leadership with hands-on involvement, ensuring that residents, visitors, and contractors receive a professional and welcoming service at all times. In addition to supervising daily operations, the Head Concierge maintains compliance with company policies, health & safety standards, and estate procedures. They work proactively to anticipate and resolve issues, uphold high service standards, and coordinate with management to deliver consistent, efficient, and customer-focused operations. While primarily leading and planning ahead of the team, the Head Concierge will also cover concierge duties when needed to ensure seamless service delivery.

What do I need to do to become an Head Concierge - candidate requirements

Operational Leadership

- Provide visible leadership and support to the concierge team, working alongside them while maintaining a forward-looking management role.
- Manage staff rotas for concierges and cleaners (if taken in house) ensuring adequate cover for all shifts.
- Cover concierge duties during staff sickness, absence, or holiday.
- Supervise the handyman, allocating reactive jobs and monitoring completion of proactive tasks.
- Liaise with Head Office regarding works, contractor visits, and estate operations.

Estate Compliance & Safety

- Complete Building Safety Act (BSA) monthly walks and ensure reports are submitted.
- Maintain and update the on-site Health & Safety folder.
- Manage and issue permits to work for contractors, ensuring compliance with site procedures.
- Undertake statutory and best-practice testing such as:
  • Emergency lighting tests
  • Automatic Opening Vent (AOV) tests
  • Fire alarm tests (either independently or alongside the caretaker).

Customer Service

- Act as a primary point of contact for residents, delivering a professional and approachable service.
- Handle queries, complaints, and issues promptly, escalating to Head Office when required.
- Ensure the concierge team provides consistent five-star service to residents and visitors.

Administration & Reporting

- Monitor and report on building operations, staffing, and service delivery.
- Assist with incident reporting and escalation procedures.
- Ensure clear communication between the estate, residents, contractors, and Head Office.

Person Specification

Essential

- Previous experience as a Head Concierge, Estate Manager, or Senior Concierge within a residential or hospitality setting.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Sound knowledge of health & safety compliance and procedures.
- Ability to multi-task and work proactively in a fast-paced environment.
- IT literacy (Microsoft Office, rota/HR systems, reporting tools).

Desirable

- Experience in managing contractors and permits to work.
- Knowledge of the Building Safety Act compliance requirements.
- Fire safety awareness training (including AOV and fire alarm testing).
- First Aid qualification.
