History of Radyr

Evidence of settlement in the area has dated way back to the Stone Age in Lesser Garth Cave near Morganstown, this was discovered in 1912 when worked flints were found. The name, Radyr itself, originates from the tale of Tylyway, who was a hermit who lived on the banks of the Taff and Tylyway’s cell is the most likely origin of the name Radyr; from the Welsh 'yr adur', meaning the chantry.

There are many things to do in Radyr , for instance, you could visit some of the many historical landmarks in the area, including St John the Baptist parish church, which is nearly 800 years old, but it underwent a Victorian Restoration in the 19th century. If history isn't your cup of tea, then you can join the numerous sports clubs in Radyr including the local golf club, Radyr Lawn Tennis Club and Radyr Cricket Club.

In Radyr, there is a tight-knit community, this is shown by the numerous activites available to join the community, for instance there is an annual two-week Radyr Festival which holds a fete and live concerts.
