History of Llanrumney

The name Llanrumney originates from the Welsh word 'glan', meaning bank and the anglicised version of Rhymni, the name of the local river. 

With regards to the history of the land, after Henry VIII's dissolution of the monasteries in the 16th century, the land passed to the Kemeys family. It remained in their possession until 1951, when the grounds were purchased by the local authority in order to build the large estates that can be seen there today.

St Edeyrns Village

St Edeyrns is a brand new village located in the north-east of Cardiff. The development was named St Edeyrn, a 6th century monk. There are many things to do in Llanrumney, for instance, you could take a walk along the Rhymney River, or visit the Eastern Leisure Centre where facilities include: a swimming pool,  badminton courts, 5 squash courts, a fitness suite and an outdoor tarmac 5-a-side pitch.

Llanrumney Cultural Scene

Fun fact, the area of Llanrumney has historical ties with the pirate Henry Morgan who reportedly used to live in the pub, 'Llanrumney Hall', and that exact pub is now said to be haunted.
