History of Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight is the second most populated island in England, the island has a long history, with the oldest records of its name coming from the Roman Empire: it was then called Vectis or Vecta in Latin. The name itself, may mean 'place of the division' because the island divides the two arms of the Solent.

The area itsel is small enough that you can get anywhere within 25 minutes from the centre but not so small that you need to be constantly hopping to the mainland.

There are many things to do at the Isle of Wight, for instance, the area boasts 500 miles of public footpath and beautiful beaches, both of which will provide scenic views. If that's not for you, then you may prefer the abundance of summer festivals, carnivals and events that the area plays host to.

Culture plays a big role in the Isle of Wight. This is shown by the numerous cultural activites to engage with, for instance, you could attend the Isle of Wight Festival which is a music festival which in the past has played host to the like of, The Who, Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix.
