History of Grangetown

Originally the Grangetown was an area of marshy land used for farming. Its farmhouse, known as Grange Farm, still exists today but it is now surrounded by streets of terraced brick houses, which were built to house the many workers who moved to Cardiff to work in the industrial boom of the 19th century,

New developments in Grangetown

Clive Lane

The new £16 million housing scheme is positioned near Cardiff Bay; the development at Clive Lane, Grangetown, will bring 100 homes for rent which consists of 51 two, three and four bedroom homes, 48 one and two bedroom apartments and supported accommodation for young people.

The scheme will bring family houses, with gardens and open spaces to an area of the capital which is currently home to mostly apartment living.

Channel View

A £60m scheme has been put in place, which will see part of the Channel View estate demolished to make way for more than 350 new properties. The proposals include the redevelopment of 180 existing properties on Channel View Road, including a 13-storey tower block which is council owned. These would be replaced with around 360 new homes for the areas current residents. The properties would be split between around 60% council houses and 40% market sale, which represents the current split in the area.
